The building was built under the supervision of Charles Brandauer in around 1860. The building continued to make high quality pen nibs until 1960, when the company began making precision engineering parts instead. The building was bought in October 2010 for refurbishment (most probably apartments) but works have stopped since a fire went through some of the factory floors in the main wing of the building, The interior has been stripped of most of the original features since the purchase. The company still trades under the name Brandauer in a new factory just around the corner from the original factory.
