After 3 hours hanging I bet he was delighted to see the cave rescue, he was lucky.

I knew a lad that unfortunately died from suspension trauma after about 3 hours they reckoned, your mate was mighty lucky!

If he was already in a bad way why was he ascending the rope in the first place. Get your first fit guy to the top and tell him to phone in. Then if help is not at hand for say 12 hours then try and get him out.

The rest could remain at the bottom to try their best to keep him 'un-hypothermic'. I'm not surprised considering the amount of water coming down the ghyll, it's like standing in a cold shower for three hours.

I can understand he's somebody's friend so they want to do best by him but what a waste of time spending three hours hauling him up ~ 'Team members assisted in bringing him quickly to the surface for examination'.
