Visited today with chubs_uk and dusty.

Was nice to finally get to come face to face with the hill, as this one has been a bit of a fantasy of ours for a while, but today we decided to scrape together the train fare to do it.

The fence did prove to be a bit of a challenge, but determination conquered over sensibility and soon we were setting foot for our first time on the dusty floors of Cane Hill.

We decided to stop off for more pictures at the chapel (after being inside for almost 5 hours) on the way towards our exit point.

As I composed the image through the viewfinder, I heard something to the effect of "Can you stop that please?" and on looking up see that a security guard had decided to walk in. He seemed decent enough, and explained that he had just seen someone (who we later met at the train station) walking around the fence and decided to check for others in the building. He also informed us that he was about to let his rather well-built German Shepard in for a run around.

On being escorted out, I was asked to erase my memory card and destroy my film, which I, forgetting that data can be recovered from an erased card, flatly refused to do. Luckily this bought me enough time to take a few random snaps on the other card in the camera, then "sadly" delete the pictures on the card I had just switched too. As for the film, well I offered to rewind it then shoot new frames over it, which I did, but with the lens cap on, thus letting no new light in over the negatives I had already shot, meaning all my pictures are intact :)

Sorry security peeps, you were nice enough chaps, but you don't spend 5 hours wondering around such an amazing place to leave without the shots :)

I apologise for the waffle, but I needed to tell people about my fun day

Can I also ask, has anyone else's command dial on their S9500 failed? Mine bit the dust today and I was wondering if it was a regular thing

its strange to walk round and see a place of such size and character being took back by the land, glad that after all the trains it took to get there was able took have a good look round before we met the security and hey why antagonize them when all the pics are recoverable, still had a great day exploring.
