Well, I thought for some reason I wasn't able to start threads, as it was I was trying in the wrong section. Ahem, nevermind.

    To the report:

This tunnel was built because the landowner did not wish to see trains travelling through his land, and without this route, the new line that was being constructed would have had to take a massive diversion. All in all, it caused this awesome 3km tunnel to be constructed.

Opened in 1897 and closed under the beeching act in the sixties. It has since been studied on numerous occasions to see if the route can be reopened.
