These give a good explanation of the 8 deep shelters in London

As Brian Cox (the actor - or was it Brian Blessed?) once said about it "There are 2 tubes which are parallel – you’re in one which we’ll call “hereâ€, and the other is, well it’s “thereâ€. You arrive in the middle and can go “left†or “rightâ€, and the tubes are split along the middle into either “top†or “bottomâ€. I could tell you about the double helix stair or the infinity-symbol shaped cross passages, but you’d probably guessed those bits already. It’s big and empty and the tubes are curved – well of course it’s a metaphor for space time. That’s basically it – it was designed by a quantum physicist with a sense of humour"
