This is my first report so please bear with me if something is not right.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to grab the opportunity to explore areas of the Clifton Suspension Bridge that members of the general public will never get the chance to see. I was able to access the tower on the Clifton side of the bridge and the inside of the Abutment of the Leigh Woods side of the bridge. Unfortunately the explore came along unexpected and i was not well equipped for taking photos so they are not of the best quality.

A little history of the bridge and chambers.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge spans the Avon Gorge in Bristol. It was engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864 and has a length of 412m (1,352ft), a width of 9.4m (31ft) and a height of 75m (245ft) above water level.

In 2000, a shaft was found under the southern footpath and another in the northern footpath and in 2002, 12 large vaulted chambers were discovered inside of the Leigh Woods Abutment. The chambers are linked by 600mm diameter shafts.
