Visited with Speed, Concentration Face and two others. Sorry, I didn't catch your names.

This hospital was built between 1898 and 1900 in what was then the countryside. I believe most of it was an asylum, which in common with the majority of asylums closed due to Care in the Community in 1996. Some sections - which I believe were geriatric wards - were still open until around 2005, and there are parts which are almost untouched by the miscreant scum which we are used to destroying these things. I'm not sure what is yet happening to the place, but the admin block has been (almost) sealed with plastic sheeting and chicken wire, which suggests something is happening.

    Anyway, on with the pictures.

The tiny service tunnels. Strange place for them to leave the lights on.

Rather cramped, as you can see.

A burnt out basement. Possibly an easy way of disposing of these sensitive documents? It's quicker than a shredder...

    The bell tower.

Quite a view from the top. Not that I captured it well.

"Do not clean". Typical NHS policy?

Some of these wards look so new. It just exposes how much money the NHS are wasting, when they're closing it down only a few years after it's refurbished/built.

    Nice selection of music:

And of course the main hall.

A big thank you to Speed for showing me this. It's a very interesting site. The cold, modern wards which have only recently closed are very different to the more conservatively styled ones we are used to seeing in Cane Hill and similar hospitals.
