Connaught Rail Tunnel, Silvertown, Sept 2010

    As dicky21 said:
"Okay so i know this has been done plenty of times but I've never been down there and have always wanted to."

Reported a lot here, so background in brief:
    - Connaught Rail tunnel part of the North London Line from Stratford
    - Served the Royal Docks in East London
    - Terminated at North Greenwich station
    - Built in 1876
    - Line closed in 2006
    - Length is around 600meters, passing under City Airport and Victoria/Albert docks
    - The middle section was redeveloped because ships in the docks above kept scraping their keels on the tunnel.
    - It's currently going to be redeveloped by Crossrail
    - Been used as a filming location quite a bit, eg Rocknrolla

Visited with One Flew East on our South-East London day out…

I was expecting this to be in much worse condition than it was - it was surprisingly pleasant. There were places where one side of the track was boggy, and there is quite a bit of running water down there with various drains and run offs, but it's not any particular hardship. It's a bit of a lost world down there, and nice and peaceful.
