Hi - This is not my first dip into urbex, but this is my first report.

Ive been to this site a few times with friends just too look, but on a spur of the moment yesterday my friend and I decided to go again!

'Crookham Court (sometimes called Harlequin Manor) is a mansion in Berkshire built around 1850, when a previous manor house on the same grounds was destroyed by fire. The building was added to over the next 50 years in two further phases.

Crookham Court served many purposes over the years. Originally built as a family home, but later became a junior school for the children of military personnel serving at nearby RAF Greenham Common. Once the air force had left the area the house sat unused until 1961 when it was purchased and redeveloped for use as a boarding school. The school was operational until 1990, after which time the rooms were used as bedsits until 1997.

A well-publicised case of child abuse by several members of staff was revealed in 1988 when a new head teacher took over the school. Three men were convicted including the principal who was also the owner of the building. Over 20 years later another teacher was also convicted when another victim came forward.'

So this is where it gets a little strange, as we entered (via the woods) there was a HUGE Alsatian dog running around the ground. This seemed ok, until it ran straight for us and chased us out onto the road area. I had never experienced this before and having read that there could be development on the site we thought perhaps there was roaming security. We plucked up the courage to go back in and found the dog had disappeared completely and no security.

We explored the grounds and ventured into the house. Since my last visit (circa 4/5 months ago) it really has been trashed. Mindless idiots breaking things and smashing windows and every piece of glass that can be seen. Not only that there is serious fly tipping in the grounds as well as bits inside the house!

Never the less, we explored and cruised around the site taking pictures until we were planning our route into the cellar area and heard doors opening and closing. Considering we were quiet throughout our trip and had explored 60% of the house (not seen anyone else) we couldn't work out what had caused the door to open and close. But whilst inside there is evidence of people sleeping rough (sleeping bags and candles) so perhaps there was someone in the third floor as we never got round to that floor.

I work in construction and the building seems structurally OK, so for anyone wanting to go and have a look do so quickly as unfortunately I think it will become more destroyed. There are still some really cool things to look at, just be careful with all the glass on the floor!

Images were shot on a mixture of SLR and GoPro.

    Thanks for reading. :)

I'm just wondering how long until all the books in the library disappear. Last time I went there (4-6 months), the library was one of the few rooms that had a new lock on it, instead of the previous time where it was open.
