    History

Daresbury Hall is a former country house in the village of Daresbury,Cheshire, England. It was built in 1759 for George Heron.

For some years from 1955 it was used by a charity, now known as SCOPE, as a residential home for handicapped people.

Following the closure the building lay empty for many years until it was sold to a millionaire bachelor who returned the building to its former use as a stately home. However upon the owners death the building was left to deteriorate and is now unusable.

The building was most recently used by Zed Events to provide a “zombie survival experience” and the outbuildings are heavily graffitied with comments regarding the “apocalypse”.

In April 2015, a huge cannabis farm containing six hundred plants with an estimated street value of £750 000 was discovered at the former county mansion in an annex at the estate.

    The explore

Two asian guys casually walking down a country road, with camera bags and tripod in situ, not sticking out like a sore thumb in the slightest. So to evade prying eyes we jumped a fence, only to be greeted by an array of signs with warnings of onsite security in the form of a dog. We proceeded nonetheless, fingers crossed we don't bump into our four legged friend, or foe, should I say.

Firstly we were presented with a row of small terrace properties. So onwards we walked and inwards we went, inspecting and surveying each property in a manner similar to that of the estate agents from Homes under the hammer. We had no intentions of restoring these homes to a state where once again they could provide accommodation, but merely were curious individuals, seeking to peek in places few have seen, looking to document the effects of time and abandonment.

The properties were stripped, leaving behind no traces, items or features to shed any light on their past life. We moved from room to room until we stepped into this. Initial evaluation concludes a man acquainted with mental illness has shared his thoughts with a wall and in conjunction expressed his feelings to the room.

Upon stepping into another of the rooms it was evident something wasn't right here either, and so as the cold shiver travelled from the base to the tip of my spine I stood staring at the room and all that it held. Whats going on? Is this a ritual? something satanic? For what reason? By who? Maybe this is related somehow to the room prior or most likely they're both props for the zombie themed shenanigans which the site was used for before it's abandonment.

Walking up to the main house, we reached an indoor swimming pool which had soon been divorced, in that itself and water were not longer in union with each other, they had long parted and for that reason the pool looked rather blue.

Continuing the footsteps, we proceeded to go enter within the property itself, we came to an entrance that, once advanced, were presented with what seems like the sounds of a water or gas leak.
We were soon to find all what was left behind by the previous residents. Not much.

Leaning against the wall rested a single shovel, standing proudly as it lies against a blood splattered backdrop. The dark room hides its equally dark past. Upon closer inspection it is evident that the blood splattered backdrop is another one of the many zombie related prop’s scattered around the site.

The room is silent, other than the scraping of glass under one's shoes, as we proceed to enter it is hard to silence the broken pieces of this house's history. But standing still, the glass grows silent, only to allow the russell of a child's alphabet decoration speak up to ears that care to listen.

The structural stability of the ground floor’s ceiling was beyond questionable, however this wasn't a time to be asking questions but more taking answers so onwards we went. We got a few steps further and our bravery was met with the cold realisation that the frigging ceiling was being held up by what looks like a thin stick or two! I took a further few steps to visualise the contents of the rooms, the lighting was poor and the carpet soaked, not much more can be said.

Accompanied by a hissing sound, indicating there was a gas leak of some kind, my left foot hesitantly followed behind my right, I stepped back into a room to be greeted by a burning sensation on my lips. Similar to kissing a girl wearing red lipstick, knowing very well you have an allergy to the colour red and to lipstick, yet still proceeding in hot pursuit. My desires initially intended for me to stay locked in lips and get more pics but the burning overcame my curiosity in which I turned my back on the bitch and left the same way I came.

Towards the back of the property stood a few cars, past their glory days but still holding on, waiting for someone to to finally pass their test, get that insurance and remind each one of them what it feels like to be a car once again.

Climbing into a large garage we rummaged around the various items in order to find a diamond in the dirt, there were no diamonds but we found plenty dirt.

A scooter, a trampoline and a cycle lay stealth amongst the rubbish, the absence of adequate light aided them in their efforts of remaining undetected.
However if so even the smallest of cracks was to exist, welcoming in with it the brightest of lights, illuminating even the darkest of rooms, it will inevitably result in a blind date between prying eye's and rusting metal and so as the cracks began to show, so did the contents of the room. It wasn't that dark in all honesty.

Whatever the reason be, why we were here, one can only ponder as he climbs back out to daylight and sanity.
Still we explored further for clues or information that could lead us closer to an understanding of why, this once beautiful house in an idyllic location, can just become desolate, abandoned, empty and decaying all at the same time.
It's still a home but one without homies. It's got the right things but in the wrong places, the pools empty whilst the carpets flooded, the ceiling’s on the floor and daylights lost its key's for the most part.

As we were making a swift exit from the grounds of this desolate land we stumbled upon a semi renovated property laying adjacent to the main house. A renovation job started but currently static in its drive to completion.
Is the glass half full or half empty? Fuck the glass! Is the job half completed or half unfinished, how about answering that!?
But anyway, erm yeah we had a quick look around and left before we were acquainted by any unwanted guests.

Words had been spoken of a cannabis factory, raided weeks prior to our visit.
All remnants of illegal activity now long gone, the police not even leaving behind the pots the plants pissed in, so I made do with a cancer stick of B&H’s finest and we left the same way we came, that is, two Asian guys casually walking down a country road, with camera bags and tripod in situ, not sticking out like a sore thumb in the slightest.
