They haven't sealed the drift yet. The last time they tried to (28th October), they opened the drift to be met with a wall of white smoke and then promptly closed the drift again.

BBC News - Daw Mill Colliery: Further fire underground

There was supposed to have been a 300ppm whitedamp reading exiting the drift which is quite small but you'd wonder where the O2 is coming from at pit bottom to feed the fire(s)...

Went past Daw Mill today on my way back from Coventry, lots of security around and quite a few demolition workers hanging around, however about 50 yards past theres an old house, quite large and boarded up for what looks like quite sone time, garden all overgrown and seems pretty much out of sight of anyone working near the pit entrance,I just wondered if anyone had explored it yet?
    Cheers

Yes it was originally a colliery officials house - had a look at it years ago, fairly stripped from what I can remember nice staircase but not much else. There was a unfenced well in the backyard half covered with a bit of chipboard so watch out if you do go...

That is a mix of very funny and rather frightening.

I know that Daw Mill has gone cold, but did you know that there are service tunnels?
Harworth Estates' demolition plans made reference to cabling tunnels beneath the 1950s built sections.

When passing recently, I had a typically unprepared look with my naff Windows-Phone camera. Nothing too special, but entry can easily be gained from the Electrical Engineering section or via the multiple access hatches outside.

Beware! not in the clean and dry tunnels, but of the Copper Fairies above the surface with Stihl saws and magical Pixie Pitbulls in the evenings.
