This is my first report so be gentle with me.
The building is absolutely breathtaking as you first approach it, I feel it was the perfect place for my first exploration. After doing a bunch of research before the visit I made sure to wear an asbestos mask just to be on the safe side and took a couple of torches even though it was early afternoon when I arrived (they came in quite handy after all)
As I made my way round the whole building moaned and groaned, there was creaks and bangs all around me and I wondered whether this was the wind or whether other explorers where around, although I didn't see a soul until the very end when I encountered the notorious gate keeper Elwyn (who was extremely rude even though I was extremely polite and apologetic)

I apologise in advance for the pic heavy thread and my pictures have been edited as I wanted to give them a slightly eery feel to them.

here is some information I pulled from the wiki:
The North Wales Hospital (locally known as Denbigh Mental or Denbigh Asylum)[1] is a Grade II listed building. Designed by architect Thomas Full James, building started in 1844 and completed in 1848. Once a hospital for people with psychiatric illnesses, at its maximum capacity it could house 200 patients. It is located in Denbigh, Denbighshire, Wales.

cheeeesus, that is the sorriest looking wheelchair i've ever seen! bit of CC doesn't really matter with denbigh as this is probably the millionth report but if it were anywhere else id personally try and include a bit more history, also pics are a little small, other than good start :thumb

thank you! I didn't get any pics of Elwyn unfortunately he did call me a few names that you wouldn't normally call a lady though, so charming!!

I would have normally given a little more history but as you said it's a place that has been done to death haha, I was worried my images would be too big as they where huge originally so I reduced them so as not to annoy anyone but thanks so much for the feedback! :D:D

if you used flickr when you pull up the bbcode it should give you image sizing options, there will be few size for medium, and a few for large etc, generally people roll with the smallest large option if that makes sense!

I'll try and log into my flickr (haven't used it in an age) I used photobucket and it took me hours so you've just saved me from having to go through all that again next time haha, thank you!

i was in denbigh again on friday and got spotted by elwyn , we split up and ran around him and hid in the church for half n hour , then went back in through the service tunnels . elwyn is an old bitter bastard who gets sick of us urbexers running rings round him @tanky . as long as you watch the road you should be able to avoid the buggar...elwyn will not live for much longer and i fear a younger man will replace him and be better at collaring us lot ! lol

I don't think anyone will replace him, he's just got nothing better to do, although I did hear a rumour the council are trying to sell it again, I really want to go back but the person who took me last time wasn't fond on the idea :(

haha I was probably more at risk of falling through a ceiling tbf! :D

This was my first explore as well, good starting point for me and thankfully I never seen Elwyn on my visit but it was a freezing cold January when I went :) Nice pics and report though :)
