Hey everyone, this is an article from one of the biggest weekly magazines in Germany, DER SPIEGEL, got it scanned finally. Perhaps the romantics-thing seems a bit camp, but altogether I'd rate it pretty fair-minded.

Gratuitous and crappy translation attempt of mine for those not that familiar with German:

    Youth

    The City Romantics

They appear after dark, wear camouflage and hide from security checks. They call themselves "urban explorers" and discover uncommon views on their city. Alone or in small groups they climb church towers and roofs of multistory buildings, they roam abandoned industrial sites and ignore the "Keep out"-signs.
From the most hazardous perspectives the "urban explorers" photograph their metropolitan impressions - and themselves, as proof, for example high above on the Sheffield cathedral.

Not pure thirst for adventure is driving them, so they claim, their goal is to discover their city in a whole new way and therefore deliberately take risks. Trophy shots and their experiences are shared in discussion forums like www.28dayslater.co.uk. In addition there is given advice how to avoid security and what clothes are most suitable. Besides, seasoned explorers recommend not to bring any spray cans, drugs or crowbars on the nocturnal expeditions. Just in case you get busted.
For they want to be romantics, not criminals.
