Spent a day in Derby, knowing this place was a shadow of the shadow of its former self, still wanted to do this one...

After normal routine, arrived at the site in far more sunlight than we anticipated and after a scout around, a bit of camera paranoia, as well as security arriving in a van and work going on in the site, decided against it. We had a list of 6 sites, so moved on to the next. We were due to go back later in the eve for some night shots, so left it there.

Later in the cover of darkness, had to rethink access but got in pretty easily. After a productive day, didn't spend that much time here, got where we needed to only to be seen from people in the car park, and a small group decided to shout "jump", which was a tad amusing, but more annoying - couldn't hang about. Got a couple of shots, had to leave it there - but this place has a really good 360 degree sightline of derby, pretty nice.

Explored a couple of parts of the main hospital, pretty dusty and lots of warnings against asbestos e.t.c, despite that still thought it was a good but brief explore, the first done at night.

    History>

It was once a bustling presence in the heart of the city, but now Derbyshire Royal Infirmary stands crumbling and empty; quite literally a shell of its former self.
First built in 1810 and suffered a typhoid outbreak in 1890. The building's design was blamed for the incident and led to it being restructured over the following three years.
In 1894 Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone of the new layout which featured 'onion' shaped towers to prevent the deadly disease coming back.
The majority of the infirmary eventually closed to the public in 2009, with accident and emergency one of the first departments to move over the nearby Royal Derby Hospital - the second largest hospital in the East Midlands. Only a small NHS walk-in clinic known as London Road Community Hospital now functions on the site.
The majority of the sprawling Derbyshire Royal Infirmary building now lies empty, with hospital beds and commodes scattered across corridors, and sinister dolls with their faces removed sitting in the visiting quarters.

Not great snaps, more for info e.t.c

I really wanted to explore the DRI but had no success. Glad you managed to gain access even if it was for a short period of time. Great photos.

Anymore pics of the main part? It's massive!
Good work though, that tower offers a good vantage point, shame it's of Derby.

No sadly, didn't spend too much time inside - it needs an early morning start best to get in when its still dark, most of its trashed too. Just chuffed to finally get high ;-)

would have been much better photos if it hadn't been for the audience, really underestimated the visibility from low down!! ;-)

lol, yeh they spotted us and chanted "jump" ;-)
a bit funny apart from drawing attention to us, had to get down pretty quick - only one staircase.

apart from that didn't really talk to anyone the whole day, sign of a good explore ;-)

Shame, it used to be quite good. X-rays and all sorts when I went.

    I maybe biased :p:
