The Globe building (formally Detroit Ship Building Co) is about six connected buildings, the first built in 1892 and the last in the 1910s. The whole complex consisted of lumber yards, dry docks, a foundry, machine shop and a chipping room. This is also one of the first places Henry Ford worked before all that building cars gig. In the 30s it was converted to a stove manufacturing company. Then the late 30s early 40s it was bought by Detroit Edison and used to re manufacture motors and other appliances. By 1970 the Globe Trading company was occupying the building and selling machinery and milling supplies. They purchased it from Detroit Edison in the 80s and it was abandoned shortly after. Now it is owned by the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) of Michigan and is being repurposed as an youth educational center.
