firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong section...

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any disused rail tracks preferably in or around Essex/Kent?

Yes, there's a piece of railway that runs from near Gillingham station to the river front which is now disused and I think still has the track down. However, beware, it is still network rail property and as such carries a fine if caught trespassing there. It runs through a deep cutting and is quite picturesque considering it's in the middle of the town, although there's a lot of litter been chucked off the bridges.
