Having been intrigued by the two other location named in the book in this thread http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/thames-water-control-bunker-blunsdon-may-2011.t61185

I managed to track down the Donnington bunker which can be seen here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...2!3m1!1s0x487128ee23c8b051:0xb55a90a0e3e339cb (no streetview unfortunately)

There's another in Widdenton which I think is this place... http://www.hill-bagging.co.uk/virtualearth.php?qu=&rf=17328&st=cld https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...2!3m1!1s0x48768bbe73e0292f:0x7304432e9b02715e

Anyone done either of them or have any more info? Sadly I don't drive or else I have a mooch over.

Links to maps let you have a look round the local area, for parking/access or whatever. That and uploading pics from my phone never works lol

Blunsdon Bunker was open in October and November at least and could well still be open. There reports up much more recent than that 2011 report.

I am driving through the Cotswolds soon (for other reasons), so will have a look for you at the Donnington and report back

    Thanks for the map links

Blunsdon is currently open again, or was last Sunday when I went up there to have a look around at the work being done.

If you do have a look around that'd be great, be interesting to see if it's much the same as Blunsdon.

Had a look at Donnington. On the surface at least, its built exactly the same as Blunsdon. Lying next to a public right of way in a compound surrounded by a 6ft barbed-wire topped chainlink fence. Have no idea if it's open or not as the farm next door was very active and the door is facing away from the footpath.

(emergency escape hatch is just off the photo to the right)

No idea what the black boxes on top of this are. Anyone knows?

    Top man Bertie :D

Second I pass my driving test I'm all over that like a rash, if it's open that is. Is it within the secure compound of the reservoirs or in it's own little lockaway?

The black boxes have always puzzled me since I noticed them, years back, at Blunsdon. I've heard rumours they are sound detection boxes but how true that is I wouldn't like to say. They do move though, or the ones at Blunsdon do. They face different directions periodically.

Widdenton is a bunker too and once again built in exactly the same way as Blunsdon and Donnington. In a compound surrounded by an 8ft palisade fence. The bunker is the NW corner near to the main gate and at the base of a comms mast. Cameras on the reservoirs but these are well away from the bunker.

Pics taken through the fence, as lots of contractors in there, and it looks they will be there for some time to come.

Pale blue door just about seen here, the sign says "gas oil capacity 3000l"

Finally in the BBC news archives there's an old article that says Thames Water built 8 bunkers and Severn Trent built 12.

Exact quote "Southern Water and South West Water built three each, whereas Thames Water went for eight and Severn Trent were the undeniable winner, coming out of the cold war with a total of 12 useless bunkers they’d never use."

Thanks for Oort for finding that BBC news archive. Soz should had given you credit at the time.

Anyways can confirm that Donnington is sealed and locked - both the emergency hatch and the main door. And the camera, on approach, flashes red LED lights and follows you around. Second time in a few days I've been well and truly CCTV'ed :(

Somebody remind me tomorrow to buy a fake beard please.
