    History
Originally constructed in 1849 by the Earl of Dudley to accommodate miners blinded in the numerous local coal mines. The miners rejected the Earl's charity, and the buildings remained empty until 1871, when they were taken over by local chainmaker Joseph Guest and turned into a hospital. The hospital's accident and emergency department closed in 1983 and was relocated to Russells Hall hospital. A new horseshoe-shaped extension was opened in 2003, but the old buildings - including the out-patients department - remained in use until October 2007. Most of the buildings are due to be retained owing to their historic importance, though some of the less significant structures are set to be demolished, and it has been speculated for some time that houses will be built there, although nothing definite has yet been confirmed.

    Visit
Visited with JdotN15, Redhunter and a non member. Seeing as the last report was reported in 2009, I was keen to get in and see what was left of the place. Carefully sneaking around the guard horses and nosey neighbours  , we found our entrance point and we were in. Within about 15/20 minutes we realised we had tripped an alarm and as we carried on exploring, we saw security having a little walk around of the building. Seeing the size of the building, I had hope it would take them a while to find us if they did come in. However, as we had another location to visit, we thought we better not push our luck and left unseen. As we were leaving a man asked us if security were on site as he wanted to go in and do some ghost hunting shit:confused:. However, only exploring about a quarter of the building, i'm keen to get back to do a revisit.

    Onto the pictures:

I drive past this place on a daily basis and always want to go inside for a nosey. I have heard security is quite tight there and with still being a novice at this exploring malarkey, have never bothered. Looks great though, great pics!!!

Ha, I remember rocking up here with about 6 others before the Birmingham meet in 2010. Security shouted at us via the external tannoy and refused to come and speak to us.

That's the most I think I've seen of the place. Many have fallen foul of those alarms and cameras but one day........
