    Info from subbrit:

'During 1992 the post was converted into an underground water storage tank for the automatic irrigation system on the course. The raised earth cover was removed from the top of the chamber and the ground graded to the surrounding levels. The ventilation shaft was removed and the access shaft cut down to ground level and the original 'Torlift' hatch reused.

All other surface features have been removed. Internally all fixtures and fittings including ladder and door frames have been removed along with paint on the walls and ceiling. After cleaning these were sealed to prevent leakage. All openings in the walls and ceiling have been filled and sealed. The work was carried out by the PSA before handing over the post to the golf club.

The hatch is locked but can be opened with a 'Torlift' key. Internally the post is filled with water to within two feet of the hatch. Water pipes enter the shaft just below the hatch where sensors have been installed to detect when the water levels are low.'

Thanks to the staff at Dulwich & Sydenham Hill Golf Course for allowing a visit and opening it up for me.
