There's a couple of refinery sites close to closing I think. I've not really been keeping up to date for the last few months..

Coryton is still an enigma despite it being closed over a year now. Grangemouth was supposed to close but was give a reprieve when the unions backed down. At one time there was talk of part of Stanlow shutting but i think quite the opposite is happening now. Anymore?

I meant to see if Milford Haven was still worth a look but never got chance. Lindsey and Humber were both for sale, I don't know what the situation is with those.
I don't know if you subscribe to the Enerdata emails, but it was one of those that set me thinking about oil. I don't remember the details now though..

Not a clue mate, doesn't look like that Thames oil port idea went ahead. But the place was/is heavily guarded for some reason. Not my kind of thing really. :thumb

Humm yes not your kind of thing but you'd be down there like a shot if someone found something good there. I know the score.

Seriously tho, these are all still used for storage and what not so not going to be easy hassle free stroll but then again we don't quite know what the score is until someone goes and has a look. Shell Haven has been wiped from the face of the earth over the past 10-15 years and im sure that was just the same when it closed. It had as many epic 50s control rooms as pyestock but that wouldn't be an urbexers 'kind of thing' as it wasn't advertised all over the internet!

The isle of grain refinery closed sometime in the 80's and parts of it are now a Liquefied Natural gas import and storage terminal.

Did anyone do this? I worked up here for a year or two and always drove by when it was switched on.

I can pretty much see Humber and Lindsey refineries from my house. Neither are closing any time soon. There were unofficial strike actions a few years ago, but I believe that is all now resolved, and £30 million is currently being invested into upgrades.
