Etton Pasture was closed as a school for children with
moderate learning difficulties at thqend of the summer term in
1990. (The buildings were subsequently used for the creation of
a residential school for children with emotional and
behavioural difficulties.) During 1990, while preparations were
being made for the closure of Etton Pasture, a new learning
support service came into being to serve the East Riding area.
The new service evolved from the old remedial service which
consisted of peripatetic teachers who supported children with
special needs in mainstream schools throughout the East
Riding. The new service was made up of two branches,
peripatetic teachers who generally continued in their existing
role, and newly appointed teachers who were located in
designated mainstream schools in order to support children
with moderate learning difficulties who in the past would have
    attended special schools.
