Visited this afternoon with Zimbob, followed by Tain ROC after dark (figured it didn't matter what light there was outside) We didn't get too much light but the weather was great, if a little chilly:D

Not too much info about the site. Was originally an annexe to RAF Tain, and later taken over by the Navy (hence the style of the control tower) Very little remaining in good nick, but an interesting explore none the less:thumb

    Some Nissen huts

Frozen water on part of runway/hard standing
    [IMG]

Why do people have to make holes?

    Electricity once lived here
    [IMG]

    That hole again

I swear sheep can move fast when they are being photographed!

Building with upstair windows but no upstairs! Large door on front and large circle in centre of floor. some major pipework and square hole in roof. 1 of 2 we found??? Notice damage to lintel over doorway:crazy
    [IMG]

    The square hole in roof
    [IMG]

This wall had the corrugations of the tin or asbestos sheeting that would have covered it. Interestingly they would be running the wrong way?

Gable end of a very small nissen hut, maybe only 15 feet end to end
    [IMG]

    More remains
    [IMG]

    The setting sun
    [IMG]

We were laughing at the collapsing concrete tables when I looked up and saw this:eek:

Next large building had strange holes in the wall, some filled in and moved

Things were looking up, we found a staircase, and in good nick too
    [IMG]

    Looking down
    [IMG]

View of control tower at far end of site
    [IMG]

Hand/foot hold, a few of which facilitated access to a walled area
    [IMG]

The same on the other side allowed access in and out of here. Reason: UNKNOWN?

We found several shelters in C-shaped mounds around hard standings
    [IMG]

This was a man made pond. Concrete in construction, sides shuttered with either corrugated tin or asbestos. Approx 4 foot high and 40 feet in diameter. Purpose: UNKNOWN:confused:

It was getting too dark to see much and we think we covered everything of interest, this was a parting shot

Nice one Bryag, that last shot came out a treat :thumb

This was a random kind of site, as Foz101 says, a mix of destruction, decay and half-arsed demolition, but still plenty to see, and it made it interesting trying to figure out what certain buildings purposes were...

A couple of my shots from the explore...

First pic, ice on the hardstanding.

Electric boxes - not too sure if these were contemporary with the site?

    Couple of buildings silhouetted

    Nissen hut window

One of the shelters - always nice to get underground :D

Twas a good day out - apart from the pigeons scaring me
