Our days off coincided so we decided to do something we've been meaning to do for a while: follow the Porter Brook River to wherever it leads. The following photos are in chronological order, which shows just how many times the Porter Brook dips in and out of culverts.

Spotted this guy on our travels, couldn't resist a cheeky snap. Look at those tinnies, is this a businessman who just lost his job, or the most well-dressed tramp ever?

Checking out the odd drain cover.

    Obligatory.

    And back out again.

    ...and back under again.

    Aww...

We're now heading under Sheffield train station...

If you turn left here everything smells of trains. If you turn right, everything smells of fresh baking. Of course we turned left, turning right would clearly lead us to a trap.

The old man of the drains.

Protip: duct taping wellies to waterproof trousers doesn't work.

About to enter the world famous Megatron...

Three hours later and here we are. Well worth the agony.

We weren't about to walk another two miles back, so as soon as we got out in the open we looked for a sneaky way back into the civilised overground. Suddenly, this pipe presented itself to us...

Most painful climb ever, made worse by the slipperiness of the pipe which made it hard to get a good grip on it. Adrenaline took over though and eventually we got out, but not before being subjected to a good ogling by the general public. We probably did look a bit weird, emerging from beneath a bridge, smelling of sewers.

Vintage day out, would wade again A+++++, though next time will do it with proper waders...
