A cut out from last nights local rag:

Looks like the planning applications are closing in on St. Johns Lunatic Asylum in Lincoln... into you know what!!!

(Some Fascinating Facts within the article though)
1. In 1986 there 13 suicides!
2. In 1988 they forgot about a body in the mortuary for - six weeks!
3. There are over 5,000 former patients buried in unmarked graves!

No Zero, it's original name was the Lincolnsire County Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

From OT's report:
Also operated under the names...
Bracebridge Asylum
Bracebridge Heath Asylum
Lindsey and Holland Counties and Lincoln and Grimsby District Lunatic Asylum
and finally St Johns

Have a look at our website or give the forum a quick search and there's loads of info/pics about the place.

Cheers

On recent explore of St. John's we came across some of the sales brochures for the then proposed housing development of the area.

These brochures are quite old, I can't tell when they were printed but the telephone STD code on the reverse is 0522 not 01522 these changed a good few years ago.

Anyway on the reverse of the brochure is an artists impression / map of how the site was going to be developed.

Those that have visited St. John's or know the area will be able to tell that the actual development hardly resembles this plan at all.

The plan with the orange overlay shows the extent of the housing development to date, the plain one shows the intended development.

No 'open space' areas have been left with the housing being built right up to the main asylum building.

After reading Lillimouse's latest website update:
http://urbandesertion.squarespace.com/st-johns/

I thought it might be of interest, just to show of how it could have been.
