Took a drive over to Featherstone with Raddog last night. It is a huge site, with many buildings, most of which are ammunition stores. The sites de-contamination building was excellent, one of the best preserved WW2 sites I have seen. The showers, beds and ARP rooms were all intact. Even an Electricity generating bicycle was in situ! The blast doors are still marked up men and women, standing or stretcher cases.
Lots of air raid shelters, one of which was still fitted with wooden bench seating... I have never seen one in such good condition. The canteen door still bore it's Air raid shelter direction sign, and had a built on shelter to accomodate the whole workforce. We stumbled upon a funny building with two symmetrical counters, with space to line up outside... perhaps to hand in controband or to collect work permits?
