Visit with too many to mention. Originally guided by rooks we headed in later guided by Root and taken to some of the better features the mine has to offer. Photography was a bit hit and miss as we were constantly moving, but here you go anyway
Trip followed by beers and a huge fire, nice:thumb

heh! yeh we saw all 6 cathedrals ;) The central bit was a total maze i dont know how anyone can navigate that even with the map! The 2nd bit we went in was easier i think i could handle that bit... maybe. I only relly got one good picture so il add it here. Thanks for the tour!

not going to bother starting a new report, not enough pics/ of any real quality :(
seems when I uploaded them they turned out about 15-25kb, rahter than the normal 70-150kb, making them all look really blurry and low res :( they all ARE in focus, just compressed too much :(

the bossman, he called bamford? was quite a few of these drawings, some of actual workers, others of trimmed bearded, greasy haired owners/ quarry masters?

crane mechanism, basic, but it still works, 100yrs later (?), a testament to its simplicity.

pile O stuff, loads of bits and pieces to look at, collected from all over the quarry into one big heap?

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x30/brickman_photos/Box%20Freestone/011b35a0.jpg
my favourite bits!!
I thought they were maybe constructed under rifts providing protection/preventing the wagon way being shut down, however have been told they were also to make use of the deads rather than just stack them against the sides, as it packs them very closely and can be stacked well into the ceiling height? saving time removing them from teh quarry? is this right?
