The eastern portal and approach cutting to this 616-yard tunnel are soon to be lost beneath infill.
It formed part of an extension to the Stanningley-Pudsey (Greenside) line which crossed a massive embankment (reputed to be the most substantial in Europe) before reaching a junction at Laisterdyke. Closure came in 1964.
The cutting at the western end is now a haven for wildlife.
