Having heard about a disused part of the Cheadle Royal Hospital Mr Sandman was on-board for a scout.
In trying to find access from the live part of the hospital, security were watching us from the moment we entered and were quick to point out when we had “strayed” out of the normal hospital areas. Access through the nearby business park was successful and we started exploring the site. Not much information seems to be available on this place but and a satellite picture is available: http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3911&page=2&highlight=cheadle+royal and http://www.simoncornwell.com/urbex/misc/asylums.htm reports:
Cheadle Royal, Cheadle, Cheshire
Originally: Manchester's Royal Lunatic Mental Asylum
Built: 1946
Architect: Richard Lane
Size: Unknown
Status: Closed. Relatively intact, but vandalised.
We are assuming this is the place and believe it was used as a nursing home before closing but anyone with more information please correct or add to this report.
Overall the site has been trashed by vandals and pikeys and with no roof in places water damage is taking its toll. There is security at the front of the building and their office is in the main entrance, but they don’t seem to patrol the inside. All ground floor windows and doors have metal boards over them, but there are other ways in. A long broken lift, old kitchen and many bathrooms are all that remain of any interest.
Pictures:
1) Outside (front)
2) Outside (back)
3) Outside (side)
4) Fire Damaged Corridor
5) Dodgy Floors
6) Lift Shaft
7) Remains of Lift Machinery
8) Toilet Cross-Section
9) Bath Time
10) Electrics
