Just incase anyone has cover on their camera and has to send it off for repair here are some personal experiences so far:
Thomas Camera - Shit. Sent the camera back to the wrong address after doing a bodge repair that didn't work. Detached lens from camera and sent back without caps which pissed me off and admitted on the phone they were "new to this and didn't really know what they were doing". Really unhelpful on the phone and camera came back dirtier than when I sent it.
Camtronics - really quick and sends your camera back looking like new to the right address. Bonus.
..and yes, I do seem to break my camera a lot.

When I used to work for Jacobs Photo & Video, we sent all our items off to PJ's Camera Repairs. Very professional service.
I have also had personal dealings with them when I dropped my Fuji S3 Pro on broughton Moor and it broke the hot shoe. The turnaround was about 2 weeks.

Went to a small place in Old Eldon Square, Newcastle, and camera came back dirtier than in was when it went in and they charged £40 for the privilege! Sent off to Canon - no problems and quick return.

Always used H.Leymans in Stoke. Never had any reason to complain at all.

If you are in the West Midlands and surrounding areas I can thoroughly recommend Halesowen Photocentre, in Halesowen which is run by a man and his wife.
They repaired my Canon EOS20d (and discovered a fault in the lens as well) and made an excellent job of the repairs using genuine Canon parts.
Their rates are extremely reasonable as well.
They can be contacted on 0121 501 3301

I agree with reef, colchester camera repairs are very good, swift and fix the problem as apposed to someone like Thomas Cameras who just bodge it.

I know of two good ones in Edinburgh.
Cameratiks in Morningside - Good on just about anything, dig or film. Good selection of new and secondhand gear, and good for obscure old stuff. Managed to find a leahter case for my 50's Rolleiflex.
JP Camera Repair in Abbeyhill, an old school film camera repair shop, Joe used to be the repair technician for Elena Mae (I'm showing may age there), he never throws anything away so if you need a part for that 1/2 frame Ferania Tanit, Joe is your man. The basement is a camera graveyard, just in case they are useful for parts, hell the man uses the remains of a Pentax 6x7 as a door stop!

I'll chuck in a vote for colchester camera centre, they deal with warranty repairs from a couple of the makes and always deal with any we send them quickly and easily.

Hi ND878, thanks for the information. I too have a Canon EOS 20d, and I only live down the road from Halesowen. Just out of interest, how much did they charge you for your repair?

Hmm, so my camera's been to Severalls and yet I haven't...
CCR resurrected my cam after a complete shutter fail (it's always really great to see the shutter blades in the last photo your camera takes) - they did a nice job. Coulda been quicker, coulda been cheaper, but hey... my camera works again, so who's complaining...?
As a nice touch they also reset the shutter count at the same time.
