Daventry Reservoir in Northamptonshire is a feeder for the Grand Union Canal and covers most of the 140 acres of Daventry Country Park. There is an interesting and accessible overflow chamber.

The tunnel runs straight from the entrance for some distance before turning to the right and eventually emerging into a tall, two level overflow chamber. The water would run into the upper section first before entering the lower chamber through a letter box slot. If the water carried on rising then it would spill directly into the second chamber before making it's way out through the tunnel.

First post so I'll see you in the bin, cheers for looking!

Yeah me too, Daventry specialises in a fine selection of ladies with low morals. :)

Is that not what you meant?

Their reputation spreads far and wide, you might want to turn the old Petzl off before having a go though :thumb

Fantastic photographs. I went up there earlier today and found the location, but couldn't find anywhere to enter the tunnels, apart from a sealed hatchway. Is there another easily accessible entrance? I heard echoes of people down there...

Yes. The reservoir feeds the Grand Union Canal, water flows downhill, Bingo!

No problem. If you have a good look around up the other end there's some nice big drains heading south and west (these feed the reservoir). You could drive a car up them!

Nice to see someone found one of the places I used to hang around in when I should have been in school (almost 20 years ago)

if those drains are anything like they used to be they are very slippery used to have a lot of fun racing mountain bikes in and out of that place with many spectacular accidents and several dunkings in the water at the end of the drains if you didnt manage to climb the walls out
