Hello this is the Roman Lakes Marple it’s a maze of tunnels and odd foundations at a site of a old mill. Some of tunnels were for the use of water and the rest of them were for people. We had to dig into some of the tunnels with a spade to get access. It is an interesting site that not many people can find with loads to explore.

I can give directions if anyone in the area wants to visit it’s a great couple of hours. If you think my report is rubbish I would like some advice and I won’t get offended cheers.

Mate, far from rubbish, think your report is really cool, I'm actually a bit jealous that I don't live near this place...nice one for sharing it :)

I used to play in these tunnels when I was a kid but never explored them properly because we weren't supposed to be down there and our torches were crap!

One thing I remember was exploring a culvert which ran from the Roman Lakes and came to a sudden end where the outfall just dropped 40ft or so down into the Goyt
Your last pic looks a bit like the midway entry point to that culvert.
Must go back there one day. :)

Nothing wrong with the report mate, looks very interesting indeed.
To quote Louis Walsh, "Oi Loiked it".

Would quite like to see more of this.

Cheers for all the positive feedback. There is a good couple of hours at the site its finding them thats hard and because theres no maps of them anywhere there could be more to be found.

Hey, I took a trip to roman lakes today after reading this thread. There is loads to see. I got some pics but they're similar to yours. Do you know any more tunnels in the area?
