Me and my girlfriend took a trip over to RAF Sculthorpe today with an air of caution as the site is still MoD owned and regularly used for training exercises by the Army, RAF and US Special Forces. However, once we arrived it became clear that all was well as the local farmer was working on the site and looking after his cattle.
The site is pretty spread out and lacking in atmosphere, but interesting nevertheless. As you enter the base you're greeted by a small business park but pretty soon you can see some old wrecks of barracks that have been left behind.

However, after climbing through the fence onto the MoD owned area we came across a few more interesting things, like, the telephone exchange and MoD police areas:

In one of the cells in the police station we came across this.....but what the hell is it?!

The floor was also scattered in confidential document cover sheets:

Near the control tower we found this kinda cool water tank that handily informs us of a young man's sexuality:

We then walked over to the control tower which was completely empty, but the actual control room still contained some of the equipment:

From the window of the control tower we noticed a section of sandbags which naturally raised our curiosity:

It seems the place is pretty regularly used for training by various armed forces and we found tonnes of shell casings ALL over the base:

The hangers proved to be in pretty good condition, although there were only about 5 on the entire base!

Over in the far distance we saw a couple of mounds that looked suspiciously like bomb stores, but we didn't fancy a 3 mile walk to get there, so got back onto the motorbike and looped around the base and found a road that led right up to the weapons stores. Although the place was well fenced off with double 9 foot fences, someone has cut through the fence and we just climbed through!

The storage area was huge and full of cows! The military had welded up most of the doorways but crucially they'd left a couple open which we had great fun in as they proved to be most echoey and orbiest rooms in the world!

Time was getting on so we headed home, slightly disappointed that the camera wasn't working well!
