Middleton Mine, a last minute addition to the trip list! I ended up meeting Shadow and his buddies for a day under Derbyshire last weekend.

This place is a true headfuck, miles and miles of tunnels all of a mindblowing scale, you need to measure this place in double decker buses not feet and inches! you will walk for miles and then discover a whole other level, and then another and another! Huge caverns dive down into the darkness and you find yourself in tunnels as wide as motorways yet 3 times as tall and opening to 3 differant levels! You would be better off exploring this place in a tank than on foot!

I want more! big thanks to the guys for a mint day!

That place is epic!! Is it masive size wise as well as the height and width of the tunnles?

for sure, it must cover square miles and then theres multiple 'layers' if you like. I think we only really did the main road between he two main entrances and then off to one of the ventshafts. We went for a couple of forays into the deeper bits but turned back after a hour or so of wandering getting lost!

Nice pics there, it's a difficult place to photograph cos it's so damned big!

We're still trying to obtain a map of this place so if anyone has any leads on the best people to approach without arousing too much suspition, let me know!

Last pics were average and didn't really show any scale, but this is awesome.

Right.. Pictures, some new stuff now. After spending lots of hours over 3 visits in the last week we have found some rather tasty new parts of the mine, and we now have a round trip style route through that goes past pretty much everything, oh and speed you know when we were trying to find that second way into the first section? Found it now, we were sooo close where we were looking :p

On with pics.

It stopped working 2007 i think, and its not likely to open again. Everything is really good condition down there and its dry as anything, plus we have a new entrance that WILL fit bikes ;)

You wait until you see the lighting rig I'm working on for the next trip, in theory we should have 2 hours of light as bright as that torch if I can get the parts in time!
