I been thinking of this site for a long time. All ways meaning to start looking for the entrance. It was a stroke of luck I bumped in to someone while bouldering that knew how to get in. The next day I was there and in :D. It has small dug out tunnels that labyrinth around the site. I could not find any well. Though I have been told that the well has been covered on the road surface above. Most of the tunnels have clear spring water covering the floor, sometimes the water has a cloudy brittle skin of what looks like salt. It breaks apart like ice when walking through it. Any way I hope my photos show more than I can explain in this report.
Enjoy :thumb

I think it's salt coming through with the water.

Salt build up on the floor, solid but crust is soft.

Nice one Petzl!
Good explore - glad it hasn't been dumped in the bin!! :)

Have you finished doing the whole lot now, or have you still some more left to see??
I reckon this must be one of the best underground conduits in Bristol - nice of you to show some pics off!!

Take care mate!

Howdy Mr scott,
I was hoping it wouldn't end up in the bin lol.
It is a good little explore and easy to. I could have done the whole site in one. but didnt have a change of clothes, one of the tunnels, the water is chest high, I really didnt want to walk home in wet clothes. The second time I went it was raining so thought its best to wait for a dry day to go for a swim lol.

Cool northcave, do you know much about bristol?

Petzl - I think the 'salt' might perhaps be calcium carbonate, being deposited through the rock - as shown on the flow formations on the walls, and the stalactites on the roof.
As far as I know, it isn't unheard of for it to settle on top of still water and then break up once the surface is disturbed.
It's also 'happy' to cover anything that comes in its path and form a solid coating over time!

If anyone can prove me wrong - please feel free!!

Still like the pics and look forward to seeing some more!!:thumb

Just one query, can you still look out of a window onto the British Rail lines?

Be interesting to know if it still stinks of diesel down there too - it used to be quite contaminated, presumably from the railway.

Nice report but a little mis leeding with :

Picture 4, the walls are covered in calsite deposits

I was always taught that calcium carbonate is a salt.. :p

Good bit of info there cpcnick.

But, and please don't think I'm being anal just for the sake of it here, if anyone is Googling for information on calcium carbonate deposits its normal spelling is 'calcite'
