http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76113/show.html?cm_re=230909-_-Home-_-rotate2_autumn09_500d

jessops have slightly discounted the canon 500d model this autumn which i've had my eye on since it's release. i'm assuming to make room for the new canon models.
i currently have the canon 300d. it's pretty clumpy and is beginning to be a little unpredictable. granted it has served me well and survived many drops and bumps, i am now looking to upgrade.

what do you guys think of the 500d? any of you own and explore with one? or recommend different?

thanks,

-honeypig

It's going to be a good camera. Best bet is to compare the specs with other cameras and brands, and get down to your local shop and have a play around with one. Take a memory card and a charged battery !

YES or the Nikon D5000. Fantastic cameras below £600.

Trust me, if you get a Nikon or a Canon, regardless of the model, you will be set for life.

500d is a class leader.

Although I am a NIkon user, I have to say that looks a very good buy.

One very, very weak point in the first bundle deal is the memory card, get an extreme three for the same money I think it will come with image recovery software, The ultra 2 is more than 6 years old technology wise and will be the bottle neck when shooting at full res.

Mymemory or 7dayshop are by far the best places for memory cards...

The only downside is that it dosent have a LCD showing all of the technical info, but thats due to its size.

meh, I reckon I could break that with my little pinky. lol joke(kinda I break cameras) looks like a good spec camera, I am looking at possibly getting a small camera and the entry level cameras are ridiculously good for what they cost.

I got the 450d and I've been nothing but impressed.

Assuming the 500d is better in some way then go for it!

Personally I'd save a bit more money and get a 50D. I'm very pleased with mine. U|nless you really want movie mode on an SLR that is

Id buy it just for the filming capibility, its like a 50d in a smaller frame, otherwise just get a 450d for less moneys! Cant be a bad choice.

Man I'd love to have a camera like you! But on the flipside, isn't it a bit of a brick carrying around? That must be quite a big problem when you're scrambling over/under a fence or getting in through a window an' that!

pro cameras look better when they are scruffed & scratched up aswell, shows your not a poser and you actually use it. like when you go to a motorsport event and theres dozens of people wielding d3s & 1dsiii about, all of them still half in the packaging. then you see one guy, in the prime spot, using a battered to hell and back 1d i and he's coverd in mud, and loving it. :p

you should try asking urbanbadger, I hear he is Pro as fook

erm well I think Reef would know trust me.

Oh and P.S my cameras are bounced off concrete, got wet and used and abused so much I have no option but to keep them as no one would buy them second hand.

i have got 2 fuji s5's (Nikon d200 in disguise)and whilst not on a level with the d2, its still a formidable camera, once you plonk a battery grip on it the battery life is fantastic, this thing has been dropped, kicked, scuffed and bashed, and it still works as good as the day it came out of the box and it has never let me down shooting a wedding/portrait etc!

I'd recommend the pentax kr, as you can use all of pentax's lenses.
And the dslr body is simply better than the 500d in my opinion
And its cheaper
