Glad you found it ok.
I think that bricked up bit is just the other enterance which got sealed when they built the bypass. Hope i'm wrong though:)

someone has been picking away at the wall with a chisel and has gone into the second layer of bricks,I think you are right and the rest of the bunker was destroyed for the road being built as the plans show it being massive, also next to the railway is alot of steel re enforced concrete,
did it have the old doors on when you went of the new ones with steel square tube sections as the old ones are laying inside cut with oxy

Interesting place.
Just goes to show how usage changes over time in these places.
Also, I bet that Radiation sign works far better at keeping the local kids out than the normal Keep Out notice

ive spoken to a few people on this and as far as i can make out it really wasnt that much bigger they say it had a long entrance tunnel running from the other side of the road but when they made the road the tunnel was smashed and the entrance sealed.

Attempted to find last night but had difficulty with friends being scared of the bridge. Got fed up of the moaning and had to take them home.:banghead Im planning a visit soon, but at night the place is lit up like a christmas tree. Is there any other way of getting there other than using the side of the railway?

Managed to find it last night (bit of wondering round he gate trying to work out how to get in! But managed it) took my friends again and ignored the moaning and just went for it, its massive inside, far bigger than i first thought, I have a geiger counter at home (impulse buy form car boot sale) so shall have to take it down there and see what it says. (Think the sign is there to make people shit them self's as in a picture it doesnt look as intimidating as in real life.) Thanks for the help should be posting some pictures soon. When i have taken them...

Out of interest, has anyone ever checked this place over for radiation?
ambriel
March 29th, 2010, 22:34
I doubt there's any residual radiation. Back when they produced steel pipes here they used radioactive sources to check them for cracks.
Being quite a secure location at the time, the isotopes were stored in the bunker hence the concrete and steel receptacle set into the floor.

Lets hope they weren't thin pipes and that they didn't use Alpha! xD
Mind, alpha wouldnt even go through thin metal would it :( Beta it is :')
