So a few months back, one of the last weekends of summer 2009, i went to that cave that is hidden in the banks overlooking the bristol suspension bridge. It's slightly tricky to get to, but it looks like it's used alot for free partys and that sort of thing. We however went there on a saturday afternoon.

Anyway whilst in the cave this guy turned up taking photos, and i had a conversation with him about this forum and he says he is a regular here. I can't remember his username but think it was something like 'teksaw'. He seemed like he was into psytrance and free parties.

I am just really interested in seeing the pictures he took of the cave and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction of a thread about the cave, or of the user?

hmmm ... it's hard to tell... maybe

although maybe thinking about it now i thought it said 'pet-saw not 'tech saw' so maybe he did say 'petzl'

so yes... actually that may well be him....

any idea if he posted up some pics of the cave in bristol? i can't access his posts or send him a message because i'm not allowed to view the members list (any idea why, i did check the faq??). is he on here often?

Hi mate,
Yeah that was me. I remember you were with a couple of others.
The cave we were in is called Burghwall Cave. It is owned by Bristol uni. There are people that go there in part of a cave trail. They are homeless and go from cave to cave, living of the land. I met one once his name was Steve and came from Swansea.

It do look like a bit of a temple now, with trinkets and objects all around.
there is separate little cavetts coming off the main cave. these are used as bedrooms. They have beds, and clothes in them.

The main cavern has a big hole in the roof. this make the best chimney.
This room is the best. This is where they play there music and the kids sleep there to.

The view from this place is one of its own. top of Avon gorge and the famous bridge to the left.

If any one goes there, respect the place... Its for us hippys lol.

Some of the photos dont do this place justice. Hope you enjoy.

I spent new year in this cave with friends, it was a bit of a hippy experience :Not Worthy but the fireworks above the old cliff railway (fascinating in itself) opposite, the noise of Clifton above and watching the sky lanterns, was quite a special thing.

The access isn't really designed for people off their face... but no one fell off or got hurt that night so good for them.

I second the call for respecting the nature and religious status of the caves should you plan to visit them, it's a special place.

Its not just the access, the whole area is a death trap. Even if your not off your face. In places, you step the wrong way and well you will defo have a nice slide before the long drop.

Okay cool, is it on the left hand side of the bridge or the right if your coming from the city centre? Also I went to the pro cathedral yesterday and had a little recon from the outside, there is a camper van and a lorry outside and two men with a st bernad dog who were just hanging around, after a while they went into a house right next door to the cathedral. Do you know who they are and whether or not it is still worth looking at inside. cheers

Mate not to be rude, but you have only done 2 posts. You seem like you know what your doing but I won't give info to just anyone. I'm sure you understand. As it is a public site I will be happy to meet up and show you where it is. As of the pro, I dont know any one who lives round there, so it could be anyone. It is always worth a look tho.
Be a good one for your first report.

Me and my friend Pat found the caves on sunday, we were both really impressed, the place had a good atmosphere. I would like to stay there in the summer. I did take pictures but none that do the cave any justice, it has to be seen!! I did get a cool picture of a bat hanging on the wall though, I was well impressed with that I took a picture then left the little fella to sleep!!! The stick with the animal skull was cool as well. Respect the cave!!

I'm surprised that no-one's mentioned the old cliff railways yet.

It runs down beneath the bridge. Surely it hasn't been obliterated? It was still there, and accessible, the last time I was down that way.

It is now under charity reconstruction, they open it once a year on open doors day. I went in quite a few years ago and it still had the BBC machinery in there and it still was segmented in to small rooms like cinemas. At the top on the right hand side is a doorway into part of the hotel that is not used. It is a massive function hall. In the 60's it was used as a night club/dance hall. I would love to get back in there. But not when all from Bristol is queuing to get in. Plus it will never be as good as when I first went in.

There is so much to look at round that area. so that is possible why no one mentioned it.

when were you down this way last?

Bobby I see what you mean about your pics. but well done for getting them up. Couple of tips to help mate. resize them with a space in between each photo. try not to rush when taking a photo. An important one.... unless you know about the laws and life on bats I wouldn't put bat piccys up. I did once and say no more lol

Never heard of Sion Hill. That does look *very* interesting.

Yea I was not sure about the bat picture? I found it a right mission trying to get the pics up! I'm a bit of ludd when it comes to technology(even if it is simple) Those pictures were taken on a mobile phone but I do have a lumix dmc tz5 that i do plan to use when i find more places to explore, it takes a good picture! I dont think there is much left but I want to visit the parcelforce building near templemeads! I just need to find one or a few like minded explorers to come with me!! Cheers for the advice anyway:thumb
