View Full Version : Report - Holme Hall Mine, Derbyshire - February 2010

This mine is adjacent to the more popular Holme Bank mine, and is most likely conected somewhere. It's actually got a different name though; Holme Hall. It's a nicer mine than Holme Bank, though with less equipment left behind. Some of the roof supports are a bit squiffy in here though...
Chert was mined by undercutting, then hammering stakes above to bring the Chert down, there is an undercut left in the mine on the far chert bed, and it's good and scary to crawl around in, this is shown in the last picture :thumb
Photos lit with Tesco C cell, and Ultrafire WF-500.

Just a word of warning, for those planning on visiting Holme Bank, the more popular mine next door to this, the walls have got VERY dangerous in places now, some are bound to give soon...

Very nice mine, I like photos of little artefacts like the lamp oil tin.

They are definitely connected and I've gone through from one to the other, but the connection is a very narrow passage and is easily missed.

Thanks mate, I thought so, there was a big recent collapse with air coming around it, at the end of the chert bed, so I guess it WAS down there :)
