Brewers Yard Quarry Corsham

Plundered by Toad & Myself

Located virtually underneath JSU Corsham

Not seen this on 28DL yet so here goes! Enjoy :thumb

A very unique former Bath stone quarry, the quarry is small in size but has some interesting features. The quarry comprises of two levels which are connected by a stone staircase and a vertical shaft connecting both levels with the surface. There are many blocks of Ashlar which were stacked up but never moved to the surface.
A very steep and narrow slope shaft leads down in to the upper layer of the quarry. Once inside there is a narrow stone staircase which leads down in to the lower level of the quarry.

In the lower level many sawn blocks of Ashlar are stacked up but were never removed, this was possibly due to a collapse at a smaller shaft in the centre of the mine preventing the removal of the stone.

A shaft has been sunk from the surface down through both levels of the quarry, this would have been used to remove stone from both levels up to the surface. The shaft is now capped.

'tis a nice one this, did it with OT and a group of others last year (had to make that squeeze at the top of the slopeshaft in pissing rain - then 4 bodies back into my car - the upholstery has never been the same since)

Cool, I'm hitting the mines with OT in the near future. For some reason I thought this was SRT, but I cant wait to see it now!

This potentially could be SRT, there are places in there to abseil, and if you can find the topside shaft then you could easily abseil into it if you so wished ;)

The top side shaft is about 50 ft away from the entrance in the edge of the woods.. Trouble is its capped with a foot thick concrete slab about 8' x 8'! Good luck with that :D

I'm sure when we were there we found a top side shaft that was possible to SRT into, might have been a dif place but I thought from inside looking up the shaft between leaves you could see light?

There's secondary airshaft another 30ft or so away.. that has a slab on it too but it's been broken up and is precariousley balanced over the shaft.. i think thats the one you can see light from :thumb
