We visited this site after a failed attempt at Horton Kirby paper mill (it appears that people are working on site now).

I wasn't expecting the site to be so sprawling, repetitive, and wrecked. I think every single window in the nurses home has been smashed, and a lot of the rest of it was badly damaged. We didn't go in any of the villas - they looked totally empty, and it seemed like a lot of work for nothing.

Anyway, getting into the services section was very easy. The large house is still very secure, with new boarding in a lot of places. There are plenty of electronic tags round the site for security checkpoints, and there are tyre tracks on nearly every single road. We encountered one dog walked, who had come onsite in a car - he asked us if we were up to no good, and left it at that - if only it was always so easy.

One very odd thing - in the boiler house, there was a 4' pipe wrench, a bag with good boltcutters, and a fresh empty packet of cigarettes on the floor next to them. There was quite a lot of fresh damage to the brass nuts in the general area. Around the rest of the place, it's clear that people have been trying to steal copper. It looks like pikeys have been caught in the act...

All in all, a bit dull - we should have tried harder to get up the tower though. It's a really good boilerhouse if you like that sort of thing.

Anyway, as usual, a flickr set of images:
