Z Rocket Dover July 2010

Right did this earlier this month hope no one minds if i put this up here a while after the event


Right plan was lydden soput first had a look but due to me really not having good footwear and still not over happy with the grassy slope leading down we decided to look at z rocket..loved it big time the entry was fun pidgeons crunchy under foot well the baby ones!!Joking i avoided stepping on them great little shelter enjoyed getting the tripod out for this one!

Nice little hole to not slip into :)

Right all in all a great shelter..did go in a plotting room while up near lydden spout they had a guest book and allsorts of old pictures on the wall..weird or what !!

no that hole comes out about 80 odd foot in the cliff face..assuming was used during construction to get rid of chalk..very small tho!!

and im quoting from a report a friend has up somewhere..

The 5.5" gun battery is situated east of St Margarets, Dover.
An underground deep shelter is still present to date but all above ground has gone.
It was constructed during WW2 but unlined parts show that it may not have been completed

apart from that nothing much known ,,its another deep shelter and in very good nick similar as they all are in construction and nearly as good a condition as fan bay..other than that im not sure mate

i prefer the name z rocket to its proper name tho i must admit..great if a little tricky entry as with most if not all deep shelters 45 degree slope most have the remains of the rails or fittings of them to get a foot hold..z rocket is a smooth slope in the wet a right b**ch..rope is allways handy lol

Right on the night 3rd attempt came out right,this is gunna sound sad but i had at night while laying in bed trying to sleep been seen to be waving my right arm around in bed ..my wife asked wtf are you doing i said practising me signiture lol

Very cool, if not a little claustrophobic.

well as deep shelters go no more claustrophobic than the rest nice spot not as good as fan bay tho!

Nice report. Z rockets were 3" unguided anti-aircraft weapons launched in salvos of 64 at a time. This is what was up top. I have a 2" version on the desk beside me, very nice!
