It's with some sadness that I report the passing away of Dave Wallis, real name Mark Wallis, aka 0742.

We didn't always see eye to eye but at the end of the day, he was one of us. He loved his exploring, and he loved his home town of Sheffield. The world will be a poorer place without him.

Bad times. I was aware of 'trouble' he would cause but at the end of the day he stood firm on what he thought to be right rather than the world telling him what to do, cant fault that. He was passionate about his home town of Sheffield again a great quality. RIP.

RIP.
Bumped into him a few times over the last couple of years in the most random places (as is an explorers habit) and sometimes had a decent chat, depending on his mood.
A true odd ball gone before his time.

Yeah, didnt like his online persona one little bit, but perhaps things would have been different if we met in reality. Lots of people have many good things to say, and I wouldnt wish death on anyone. Thoughts go to his friends and family.

I met the guy once and had a look around george barnsleys with him, after meeting him i liked him and his passing is a sad loss- this world needs more people as unique as him to make it an interesting place.

Annoying, odd, irritating, at times offensive... but, perhaps the kind of character this country needs more of, i.e someone not afraid to speak his mind and make his points, to be different and not be afraid of it. Despite the conflicts some of us had with him at times, I'm sure he was a harmless enough guy, and probably alright when you got to know him. RIP.

He really was a blinding guy if you ever met him, I explored with him a few times and his enthusiasm really was infectious. I had a few fallings out with him evrybody who had anything to do with did at some point, best one was when we first did George Barnsleys back in 08, he wrote to the paper about it the next day and I woke up to an article about 0742 and Mexico75 the anarchist squatters planning a sit in in there till the place was secured properly. I'm not a squatter or an anarchist and it was the first I'd heard of a sit in lol. Had some great times with him over the years and I'll really miss him:(

Aww the fruitcake dave wallis has passed away. He is another one who was untouchable and he'll be irreplaceable. I never met him, though I once saw him in the distance on the wasteland end in [ Brightside ] sheffield he was ranting and raving to himself so it seamed. I never managed to talk to him he vanished into thin air.

Rest in Peace Mr Wallis

Funeral details...

Mozaz’s funeral will take place on Thursday 3rd February 2011
The ‘service’ will be at Grenoside Crematorium in the North Chapel starting at 12pm and finishing at 1:15pm
Skew Hill Lane, Grenoside, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S35 8RZ
Tel: 0114 245 3999
The ‘service’ will then be followed by a gathering of friends from 1:30pm onwards at :
Philadelphian Working Mens Club
4 Martin St
Sheffield S6 3DW
0114 272 1708
Friends are welcome at either or both venues.
The cortege will leave from outside George Barsnleys at a time yet to be arranged. ( I will post as soon as I know) It will then pass The Fat Cat and pause for a short while. We will then carry on to collect his mother and proceed to the crematoruim.
We will require coffin bearers but the number is limited, usually to 6. If you wish to do this will you pm me so we can make arrangements. Also, if anyone wishes to stand up and say something it would be helpful for me to know for numbers etc. There will be a slideshow of pictures of Mozaz halfway through the ‘service’ so if you have any you’d like including, please let me know.
Any other questions, please just ask.
Sam x

It would be good if we could get somebody along, if you need any cash for expenses let me know how much and what for (beers are legit) and we'll consider it.

Sorry to bump such an old thread.

A few of us went to Sheffield today to erect a plaque in memory of the explorer Mark Wallis aka 0742 aka Mozaz aka Bucolic who sadly passed away in January, and explore a few of his old haunts. Was a really nice day and a good turn out, nice to see so many familiar faces. It was good to be able to reflect on the many memories we have of the guy.

Anyone who ever knew 0742 will know exactly where this plaque is.

Great stuff, the last time I was out with Moses we did his favourite haunt. His internet persona didn't match what he was like in person. I had a lot of time for him and he, more than anyone else, made me realise that maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge someone on the internet.

Nope its gone, along with lots of other stuff.. filing cabinets, the spiral staircase railings. Systematic stripping of the place.. but the plaque was purposely made of a plastic material to deter from any nicking it.

Part of me wonders if it was the owner, he really didn't like what Mozaz did to try and bring the deterioration of the buildings to the attention of the local media.

Looking at the photos, it appears as though the 'typewriter room' has totally been stripped of everything, there are 2 little drawers left in there.

The plaque was not of value to anyone, so it sounds like there is more to this than meets the eye.

Its very low whoever has done it though!

Esposa
September 26th, 2011, 13:26
No we didn't remove it or change it's location. Something odd is going on because random bits of furniture have vanished. The building doesn't have any in date planning permissions nor have any new requests for planning been submitted so I can't see it been the owners getting it ready for demo.

Ojay
September 26th, 2011, 15:33

The owners do enter the building, Kitty bumped into some of them once, so perhaps it was them, they were very pissed about exploring...

Esposa
September 26th, 2011, 19:39
Maybe it looked like it had a value ?

Nah it was just a piece of wood with a black plastic thing stuck to it so I doubt even a pikey would have gone to the effort. It was stuck pretty fast so would have needed a lot of force to get it off the wall.

Someone on here posted they saw pikeys taking the filing cabinets last week so I'm not convinced it has anything to do with the current owner either.

The planning application for the site ran out in 2010 and no new application has been made so I can't see the owner spending cash getting it ready for demo when he can't do a thing with the land.

Ojay
September 26th, 2011, 19:43

Speed
September 26th, 2011, 21:46
Welcome to the real world im afraid. I was only saying the other day GB had survived pretty well considering its situation, sounds like the inevitable is creeping up on the place tho..

As for the plaque, who didnt see that coming??!

BenCooper
September 26th, 2011, 22:01
If I owned such a place, and not only were annoying "explorers" getting in there, but I found they'd superglued stuff to my building, I'd have it off with a crowbar as well.

Sorry, but I think it was inevitable...

explorer62
September 26th, 2011, 22:07
so you wouldn't give a toss that the place was falling apart

you wouldn't give a toss that some people were nicking stuff out of it enough to secure it

but you would give a toss that someone had glued a plaque to some brickwork ?

Can't see it miself.
