After a tip off that Lincoln's old Morgue was right under the heart of the City Centre, urbanfootprints decided to look into it.
We did some investigating and found this to actually be the case, so on Saturday Sixxfingers and I went to check it out.
I'll go as far as to say the access isn't straight forward, but then it rarely is ;)
Once underground we found a pitch black maze of corridors and rooms.
Some of the areas under there appear to still be used as storage by the premises above.
Unfortunatley, The only elements that remain of the Morgue are the boiler, furnace and the iron supports that used to hold the bodies on slabs.
Sixxfingers spoke to a helpful local and will probably be able to add some more detail in his post.

Speaking to one of the shop owners above ground...
she told us that after the place was used as the main Lincoln Morgue, it was later used as a temporary hospital and a pharmacy.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no further information on the internet... so its another trip down the archives!

It was nice to put another Lincoln urban myth to bed!
Here's some of my images - enjoy...
