Well things have been put right. After Stumpy and co stole Park Prewet's clock away from me, I took a drive to Sheffield to see Middlewoods sorry looking clock tower.
On arrival, I was shocked at the condition of the buildings. Most of the damage was not vandalism or arson, but natural decay. 50% of Admin's floors have fallen through, making navigating the buildings difficult. Not expecting to see much in the buildings themselves, I headed straight for the tower, passing rooms that were so bad condition even the plaster was dropping off the walls. Then, out of nowhere stood a fantastic condition main corridor, clad with cream ceramic tiles. It was a great suprise after trudging through rotten wood and plaster.
I made my way upstairs, and was gutted to see my way from the staircase to the spiral staircase of the tower was missing... it had fallen through!!
Gutted, I made my way downstairs. Then, I noticed that the floor directly under the stairs was missing. With a little bit of the old 'stacking up stuff' routine that has got us in so many towers before, I was up!! There was three flights of stone spiral stairs, and then one long wooden staircase. This was very rotten... but I had come too far to leave it half finished!!
I originally thought the clock faces had been removed. I was wrong, they were smashed on the floor of admin. There was a nice little hatch that led out onto the balconies of the tower, but did not spend long on them in case I was spotted. The ladder up to the very top was missing, so no access up there i'm afraid.
All in all a very enjoyable climb. I'm afraid to say the chapel of the hospital is boarded up tight.
