After having this place high on my hit list for some time, I finally got the chance to make the trip down to the grand industrial relic that is Shoreham Cement Works. Access was fairly straightforward, our main challenge being the weather that insisted on punishing us for most of the day. Once on site things were surprisingly relaxed as we made our way gracefully around the various abandonments. Visited with Putridbadger and Serenity.
Shoreham Cement Works was erected in 1949, however the quarry dates back to 1851 and cement was manufactured on the site since at least 1898. The cement was fired in two 350ft kilns. It closed in 1991 and a distribution depot on the site ceased operating in 1997.
