For this upcoming weekend I don't fancy taking a big heavy tripod.
I have an older jessops '327' style tripod thats ideal, its light, the legs are just upto the job, but the head is total crap.
Anyone had any joy removing the factory head and screwing/tapping a bit of bar into it etc?
Looks like this...

no.
£10 Hama tripods @ Tesco for the victory
Cant do it any harm........
I've got one of those Tesco Hama things and it does the job ok. Best used on remote or timer though as the head (ooh) can get wobbly over time.
They are proper crap mate, even a manfrotto modo is better, borrow mine.
You got modo!!! Might have that
Just them Slik pro's are 2.5kg +.
modo is 1kg, and cheapo one i've got is abotu the same. but the head is total crap, it won't go quite level, and won't go quite vertical, also it has enough wobble in it to drop the camera :S
£10 from asda, the hama tripods do the job just fine when you don't wanna wreck your GOOD tripod!
Mines been encrusted in mud, used to stand on for access, had sewer filth all over it, used to check depth of water, and been ALMOST used as chav-repellant. I even used it as a tripod once....
the whole point is a good tripod wont become wrecked, I have been using my manfroto 190 XproB for 2 years and it gets dropped, thrown, dunked, put in sewage, and generally abused, but comes back for more and I dont think it even has a dent in it. Before that I used cheap crappy ones and they lasted maybe one explore 2 at the most.
yeah but it aint the damage problem its just weight. The tripod i have, same as bricks, 'as being going more than 3 years doing photography, then mega hard knocks bashes, stripped apart etc. but its just too awkard in small spaces. Still need to put another good 488 head on it, ah that reminds me!
Edit, just sin you was replying to the other guy, yes, just spend soem good money ona good tripod, and you will never look back. Ive tried loads of cheap ones other people have used, and its an absolute NIGHTMAre when youve being using a solid tripod, with a ball head.
