Tonight Madmax and I went to the now defunct Terry's factory in York.
If you have eaten a chocolate orange or one of their many varieties of chocolate over the years it came out of this place. We were guided in by dempsey :thumb and toured a bit of the site. It was too big to do in one hit so it will be back on the list.

Here is a brief history lesson on the place.

1767 - Confectioners Bayldon and Berry founded
1823 - Terry's name first appears when Joseph Terry becomes a partner
1886 - Joseph Terry Jnr builds chocolate factory in Clementhorpe, York
1923 - Frank and Noel Terry join the business and launch the Chocolate Orange
1926 - Production moves to Bishopthorpe Road factory
1939 - During the Second World War the factory makes aeroplane propellers
1975 -Terry's of York acquired by United Biscuits.
1993 - Kraft General Foods buys Terry's Group from United Biscuits and amalgamates it with Jacobs Suchard to create Terry's Suchard
2004 - Kraft announces closure of Terry's site

Terry's was imaginatively run for two centuries, buying its own cocoa plantation in Venezuela whose twin palm trees at the front gate became the firm's emblem. But business was damaged in the second world war when part of the factory was taken over by an aircraft propeller firm.

A nice bit of history there Squirrell, cheers for doing that.
Well, another excellent night of exploring was had.
Many thanks again to Dempsey for giving us the guided tour.
As Squirrell said, Terry's is massive and we only got to do a good part of it, so another will visit will have to be done.
some of the evening's highlights came from the comedy climbing needed to gain access, I'm still aching today :D

Made to feel welcome
