Central Power Station, Bromborough, Wirral. February 2010.
SORRY I FORGOT TO RESCALE PICTURES. SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN NORMALLY ALLOWED. I WILL REMEMBER NEXT TIME!
Seen a couple of reports for here already. Couldn't resist as it's right on my doorstep. Overcast weather meant dull lighting for pics, but they still give the idea. Entered by walking right along the shore of the Mersey from Eastham Woods. Tide needs to be out. I know there's other ways in, but I opted for this as the surrounding factories were pretty busy. I killed a couple of hours mooching about in here.
HISTORY:
Built in 1918 to supply energy to Lever's Port Sunlight factories. The station could produce a total of 11.5 Megawatts of electrical power at 3.3kv. By the 1950s Central Power Station was producing power for the various Lever’s factories around Port Sunlight and Bromborough, both of the Villages and for other companies operating in the Bromborough Pool area. It had a connection to the main MANWEB electricity supply so that in periods of high demand it imported power from MANWEB, and at times of low demand it exported power to MANWEB.
Okay, heres my pics...
Coming upto Central Power Station from along the shore.
Access was easy.
Mooching around the grounds.
Stairs leading to control room.
A future explore.
The main gateway. Snapped it on leaving.
