Right i know this place has been reported before but it was my first explore and would like to share it with you guys/girls..

1936


Experiments to produce refractory grade magnesia from seawater were successful
1937


Site acquired at Hartlepool. Pilot plant built costing £10,000
1938


Full scale seawater magnesia plant built at Hartlepool.
No1 Beachpump, No1 Settler and No1 Rotary Kiln produced 450 tons by end of year.
Development of a reactive magnesia powder use in the manufacture of magnesium metal.
1939
Magnesium metal successfully produced by Magnesium Elektron using magnesia produced from dolomite and seawater. WW2 commences. Hartlepool was the only source of magnesia in the UK.
Capacity which stood at 4000 tons was authorised to increase to 16,000 tons per annum.
1940
Construction of Harrington Works started in Cumbria.
Targetted to produce 40,000 tons per annum of chemical magnesias for magnesium metal production
1941
Hartlepool Works passed into government ownership under the control of the Ministry of Supply.
1940 extensions completed with installation of No2 Beachpump, No2 Settler and No2 Rotary Kiln.
1942
Shaft kiln construction started at end of year - producting of dolime from dolomite for use at Hartlepool. To maintain supplies if Coxhoe works damaged by aerial attack.
1943
1942 extensions completed giving a total capacity of 26,000 tons per annum.
No3 Beachpump, No3 Settler and No3 Rotary Kiln installed.
1949
No1 Sand Trap and associated reserve tanks built. Storage of seawater for use during low tide when the beach pumps were not available for operation.
No4 Beachpump, No4 Settler (240ft thickener) and No4 Rotary Kiln being built from October onwards.
1950
No3 & 4 Rotary Kiln spray towers and precipitators being built.
1 & 2 Beachpumphouse built.
3 & 4 Beachpumphouse built.
1952
Steetley allowed to re-acquire plant from goverment.
1954
Harrington Works demolished.
1956
No5 Settler and No5 Rotary Kiln construction commenced. Shaft Kiln demolished to provide space.
1957
No2 Sand Trap and associated Seawater Reserve Storage Tanks being built.
No's 4 & 5 Hydration units being built.
E6 Hydrotreator underway.
Road alongside works being laid.
Engineering workshop foundations laid and Electric shop being built.
No1 & 2 Electrostatic Precipitators being built.
Dust plant effluent drain to beach pipework being installed.
1958
First million tonnes cumulative production during 1958
1960
Beach road being laid.
No3 & 4 Spray Towers and Electrostatic Precipitators being built.
£3 million extension started. Ten acres of land bought from golf Club. Work to include the building of the Jetty, No 6Settler, No 6 Rotary Kiln, Chimey and ancilliary equipment.
1961
250 ft high Chimney and No6 Rotary Kiln construction started.
Boiler House completed and oil storage tank construction underway. Kilns to be fired by heavy fuel oil instead of coal.
Seawater Desorption Tower being built.
Jetty under construction and seawater pump Caisson in position.
1962
World's largest settling tank completed - No6 Settler (340ft diameter thickener). C2 Pumphouse, Acid Plant, Subststion and Acid Tank under construction.
Employee and family open days - 30th September & 7th October.
1963
No1 Sand Trap and associated Seawater Reserve Tanks demolished.
1964
No1 Herreshoff furnace and Bag Filter Unit built (on site previously occupied by the Sand Trap and Reserve Tanks).
1966
First chemical magnesia grades produced as a by-product of Herreshoff operation.
1967
Record weekly output of 5147 tons - week ending 15th January.
Jetty fishing platform opened (February).
No7 Settler construction started (October) as part of the planned development of higher quality products for the brickmaking industry.
Main chimney demolished due to safety concerns and a new 250ft stack erected.
1968
No2 Herreshoff Furnace built and No7 Settler completed.
1970
Three million tonnes of Britmag produced cumulatively. £1 Premium bond given to all employees.
No3 Pelletisation Plant commissioned. Machines operating in series (not parallel) giving significant rate increases.
1971


Spion Kop speciality chemicals plant being built - a £3 million investment.
Spion Kop Britmag store completed - capacity circa 35,000 tonnes.
Heavy engineering store built on site of Port Isolation Hospital
1972
Speciality magnesia plant brought on line.
Annual production record achieved at 236,058 tonnes
1974
Energy saving LG (large grain)products and production route developed.
1975
Hartlepool Works wins Queens Award to Industry for Exports. David Gill MD.
No8 Settler construction started
1977
Official opening of LG2 Plant (7th July) - another investment of £3million.
1980
Five million tonnes cumulative production by 25th August.
1981
Second Queens Award for Export Achievement. Trevor Lythe MD.
Steetley Company withdraws from Cogema and Sardamag. Joint ventures with German and Italian companies commenced 1962.
1984
Attempted takeover of Steetley by Hepworth Ceramic rejected by Monopolies & Mergers Commission
1988
Quality Certificated to BS5750 (part II) equivalent to ISO9002
Six million tonnes produced cumulatively.
1992
After a hostile take-over, Steetley comes under Redland plc ownership and renamed Redland Magnesia.
1997
Hartlepool Works sold by Redland and is renamed Britmag.
2000
Seven million tonnes produced cumulatively.
2001
Milling plant commissioned - £1 million investment.
2002
Site under administration from January. Reborn April as CJC Chemicals. All refractory production ceased.
2005 CJC Chemicals cease production at start of June.
