I can remember when St John's first cropped up on the exploring scene... It was different from the norm in that it was 30 -40 years older then the G T Hine designed asylums. More "prisonesque" with long corridors of cells, an admin which resembled a Georgian manor house and an American style water tower.

Once again my early pictures sucked and I was keen to return to attempt some better shots. Although parts of the hospital have been converted, and most of the remaining buildings have been swept out it has retained it's charactor and was well worth another visit.

The iconic iron roofed corridor, adorned with shileds bearing the cross of St Groege, the main hall and tower all remain as they were back in 2005. You have to look a bit harder for the details then before, but I would say it remains one of the top 5 derelict asylums left in England.
